Manual Therapy

Manual therapy is a specialized form of physiotherapy delivered with the hands to put pressure on muscle tissue and manipulate joints. The physiotherapist uses this technique to diagnose and treat soft tissue and joint structures. Manual therapy is appropriate for acute and chronic pain and can be used to treat new or previous injuries. The aim of manual therapy is to modulate pain, increase range of motion, reduce inflammation, improve stability, facilitate movement and improve function.

There are several techniques that the physiotherapist can use when performing manual therapy, which include:

  • Joint Mobilization: the physiotherapist will facilitate movement in a joint within the client’s range of motion
  • Joint Manipulation: the physiotherapist will manually move the joint beyond its range of motion at a high velocity
  • Soft Tissue Techniques: the physiotherapist will perform fascial stretching, friction massage and soft tissue release
  • Neuro Mobilization: the physiotherapist will encourage the movement of nerves within their pathways

Manual therapy is appropriate for all clients and will be adapted by the physiotherapist to meet health goals.

It’s recommended that clients book a 30-minute session to receive the most benefits from this treatment. To book a manual therapy session, call 613-635-7026.

I treat all types of clients and conditions. With my approach, I do not believe that there is one specific treatment protocol for everyone, rather I encourage my clients to explore the various types of treatment options available to them…
