Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of very thin needles at specific points on the body.  This form of treatment has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine to treat all kinds of conditions.  In more recent years, we have gained a better understanding of how acupuncture works and also the conditions it is effective at treating.

In traditional texts, acupuncture is described as a therapy that can change the way QI, described as “energy” or “lifeforce,” flows through the body.  Modern research has demonstrated that the insertion of needles into acupuncture points affects brain activity, nerve activity, and blood flow.  These effects stimulate healing in the body and can also reduce pain.

Acupuncture can be used to treat a wide range of conditions.  A few examples include: headaches (migraine and tension-type), infertility, PMS, menopausal symptoms, the effects of stress, upper back and neck tension, anxiety, insomnia, indigestion, constipation and diarrhea.
